O'Connell was born on December 18, 2001, in Los Angeles, California, and raised in Los Angeles' Highland Park.[5][6] Her parents are actress and screenwriter Maggie Baird[7] and actor Patrick O'Connell,[8] both of whom are also musicians.[9][10] O'Connell is of Irish and Scottish descent.[11] She was homeschooled and joined the Los Angeles Children's Chorus at age eight.[12] She began singing at a young age and began writing songs at age 11, taking after her older brother Finneas O'Connell, who
